Join Drs. JUNE SPEAKMAN and ROXANNE O’CONNELL on a journey along the Wild Atlantic Way of Ireland’s west coast as we experience Ireland’s living traditions and explore Ireland as an island-nation. Rich in agricultural resources but poor in conventional fuel sources, Ireland has had to embrace sustainable energy and cultivation practices in a more aggressive manner than larger mainland countries. This will be the topic explored in the CORE Interdisciplinary Senior Seminar: CORE 450 People and the Planet in the 21st Century. What we discover about Ireland’s challenges in this area becomes the material for COMM 490: Culture in Contact: A Greener Ireland. Photography and writing are central to this part of the program as we develop strategies for ethically representing a place and its people in the form of eco-blog posts and other social media.
